Annual Conference a Success!

I have to admit I am still basking in the afterglow of our Annual Conference which was held October 16-18, in Bellevue, which saw a record attendance of over 630 people. I was impressed by the quality of the breakout sessions, our two keynote speakers (John Paget, talented filmmaker and Rick Steves, respected travel expert), many opportunities for networking and talking to exhibitors, our successful student scholarship fundraiser, and the city of Bellevue itself.

                    Recap: 2024 Annual Conference

Over the course of October 16-18, the City of Bellevue served as the proud host for the 2024 APA WA Annual Conference. The theme this year was Renewing the Plans: Embracing Innovation & Resiliency. I’d like to thank fellow conference co-chair Nancy Eklund, the many volunteers from across the state and locally who helped plan the proceedings, numerous event sponsors, and the WA APA Board for their support. And, of course, a big Thank You to our conference coordinator, Stephanie Martinez.

    Fall Training: Housing Policy & AI for CM Credits

Fall is in full swing and we are nearing the end of the year! It’s a great time to finish up some CM credits for your log. Thank you for Making the Student Scholarship Auction a Success!

The Chapter’s Student Scholarship Auction event took place on October 17 at the 2024 APA Washington Chapter’s Annual Conference in Bellevue. The purpose of this event was to raise funds for students enrolled in one of Washington's accredited planning educational programs. I am happy to report that the auction met the fundraising target of $7,500, and more donations are coming in!

Join transportation safety advocates on Tuesday, November 19, to learn from each other. This event hosted by the ITE WA Traffic Safety Committee will focus on sharing what works and building relationships between industry partners by connecting advocates, practitioners, and agency decision-makers.

The Student Representatives Council (SRC) is gearing up for the 2025 Student Design Competition, which will take place at the APA National Conference in Denver. This exciting annual event invites students to tackle real-world planning issues, challenging them to come up with creative, innovative solutions to today’s urban challenges.

              Seattle Design Commission Recruitment 

SEATTLE – Mayor Bruce Harrell is recruiting an Urban Planner and an At-Large member to join the Seattle Design Commission. The two-year terms will start in March 2025. We are looking for an urban planner and an at-large member interested in elevating the design of City capital projects (parks, community centers, fire stations, etc.) and projects seeking long-term or permanent use of a street or alley. Experience in publicly funded development, policy, or plans is preferred.
