Mobile Workshop 1: From Neighborhood Vision to Implementation: McKinley Hill Neighborhood PlanThis tour will explore the implementation of the award-winning McKinley Hill Neighborhood Plan, highlighting successful strategies for translating public input into funded, community-driven projects. Participants will visit key locations in this historically working class and culturally diverse community just south of the Tacoma Dome to see how public art, infrastructure investment, and cultural storytelling can transform a neighborhood. Learn from local leaders about securing resources, building partnerships, and fostering long-term community involvement in placemaking and place-keeping efforts. Featured stops will include the McKinley Overlook, a new public space created with community input; a new street mural and intersection safety enhancement; and other temporary art installations. Mobile Workshop 2: Bus Tour of Port of TacomaLearn how the Port of Tacoma manufacturing industrial center has leveraged its natural assets to build a world-class port that is a leader in the green marine world. Tours of port and rail terminals demonstrate innovative solutions regarding industrial lands, transportation safety, and the supply chain. |
