APA WA President 

Could you give us a brief overview of your professional background and what led you to the field of planning?

I currently serve as the Community Development Director for the City of Vancouver, and I have been in that role for the past 11 years. I came to the City of Vancouver from Ithaca, New York in 1992 where I was a planner, after being fortunate enough to land an associate land use planner job right after The GMA went into effect.

Urban Planning Conferences

Attending urban planning conferences is a great way to introduce students to the profession. This past year, dozens of Western Washington University Urban Planning students have attended the Washington American Planning Association (WA APA) conference in Vancouver, WA (Fall 2022), the National Planning Conference in Philadelphia (April 2023), and the WA APA in Spokane, WA (Fall 2023).
