Remember When You Were a Student and “Money was Tight?” A Reminder About the Scholarship Auction on October 17th

By Steve Butler, FAICP

I want to remind you about the Student Scholarship Auction will be held on Thursday, October 17th during the luncheon portion of this year’s APA WA Chapter annual conference in Bellevue. This fun event will include a live auction and a “raise the paddle” donation option.

The funds raised at this event will be used to help students with their educational costs while attending one of Washington's four accredited Planning programs.

The live auction items include:

1.    Fly Fishing Lesson on Merril Lake

Thank you to Chad Eiken and Brian Carrico for donating this experience.

2. Puget Sound Whale Watching Tour for Two

Thank you to Joe Tovar for donating this tour.

3. Limited Edition Serigraph, Pendleton Blanket, and Autographed Gallery Booklets by Artist Preston Singletary

Thank you to Michael Cardwell for donating these items.

4. Half-Day Sailboat Trip (Up to Three Adults)

Thank you to Kell Rowen for donating this experience.

5. Four-Night Stay at the WorldMark Resort in Seaside, Oregon (Up to 6 People)

Thank you to Esther Larsen for donating this stay.

Here’s a tip for those of you who are new to fundraising auctions – If there is an item you really want but aren’t sure you can afford by yourself, talk with your friends and colleagues about making a joint bid on an item where more than one person can participate (for example, the four-night stay in Seaside, Oregon, that can accommodate up to 6 people). More details about the live auction items will be provided in the conference app.

In addition to being able to bid on the items mentioned above, you will also have the chance to directly support student scholarships by raising your paddle and making a donation at specified monetary levels.

For more information about the Auction, please contact the Student Scholarship Auction Committee co-chairs: Steve Butler ([email protected]) and Kirk Rappe ([email protected]).

We look forward to seeing you at the Student Scholarship Auction to be held during the conference luncheon on October 17th in Bellevue!
