I hope you all are enjoying spring time as much as I am! One of the best parts about spring is the chance to broaden my horizons with a trip to the national planning conference, which just concluded in Philadelphia this year (there’s an online version April 26-28 if you weren’t able to travel).
Nominations Open for 2023 Governor’s Smart Communities Awards
The annual awards program celebrates excellence in planning for future growth and livable communities.
The Washington State Department of Commerce is seeking nominations for the 17th annual Governor's Smart Communities Awards, a program that recognizes outstanding work by local governments and their partners on community planning and development.
Commerce has brought on a consultant (BDS Planning) to help planners effectively converse on matters of race with their elected officials, boards and commissions, and the public as part of their GMA Housing Element work on racially disparate impacts (or to have those types of conversations on any planning issue for that matter). The consultant will also provide best practices for staff on reaching out to and approaching historically marginalized and vulnerable populations as part of their GMA work.
The Puget Sound Regional Council (PSRC) is looking for high school students from King, Snohomish, Pierce, and Kitsap counties who want to learn about urban planning in our region and share ideas about how to make the central Puget Sound region a better place to live, work, and play.
