Ascoli Piceno is a thriving city that predates the Roman era and was on the ancient “salt road” (Via Salaria) to the Adriatic. It was part of an earlier culture called the Picene. It is little known to Americans. It has two grand cathedrals, one with an ornate crypt. The center is relatively flat with three large piazzas – all very lively, as they are surrounded by restaurants, outdoor cafes, pastry shops, and coffee bars. The center contains two meandering rivers that are still in a wild, natural state. There will likely be a huge street market that day. Participants will have many choices for lunch, including at the classic Caffe Meletti, known for its Parisian-style Art Nouveau interior and its superb food and drinks. (The cost of lunch is not included.) CM credits: 2.0
4:00pm – 5:00pm For those not opting for the Saturday tour, we will return them to Porto San Giorgio to catch a train or bus in the morning.
Notes: The individual sessions are a la carte, you need not attend all of them if your preference is to do something on your own. There are some nice walks in the village and in the country. For those who have cars, there are many other attractions in the area. We can advise. If one attended all sessions, the total number of CM credits would be 20.
