Comment on the Zoning for Equity Policy Guide

APA has been working on the latest addition to our suite of policy guides. Policy guides provide APA’s positions on matters of principle to inform planning advocates and also offer best practices and inspiration for practicing planners to use in their work. The policy guides are initiated by APA leadership, developed by a team of subject matter experts, workshopped in several venues including at conferences, shared for review and comment by APA membership, and ultimately considered by an assembly of delegates from each chapter and formally adopted by the APA Board of Directors.
The APA member comment period for APA’s draft Equity in Zoning Policy Guide is open now through November 14. Download the draft policy guide here and send your comments to [email protected] by the comment deadline.

Draft Policy Guide

Only APA members can provide feedback on policy guides as these are written by and for APA members. Members and leaders alike have been deeply engaged in the development of this guide since its earliest days. To date, we’ve collected feedback from members via:
  • NPC22 Learning Lab
  • Intentional outreach to APA divisions and chapters
  • Digital delegate assembly working session
  • National Legislative and Policy Committee
  • APA Board and Commission
The guide aims to identify specific ways in which policy makers – together with planners – can dismantle barriers that perpetuate the separation of historically disadvantaged and vulnerable communities in key areas:
  • Public engagement
  • Administration
  • Mapping
  • Zoning regulation enforcement
