Job Description: Serves as a first-level professional planner. Implements the mission of the Department in order to assure the orderly growth of the City. Undertakes and coordinates professional planning services involving: processing of discretionary and ministerial development applications and providing public information about City planning policies, regulations, and activities.
Job Duties:
- Prepares recommendations to the Director and Hearing Examiner.
- Assists with drafting land use plans and development regulations and collection/analysis of geographic/socioeconomic data.
- Supports Code Enforcement, including code analysis and site visits.
- Works with other department members in collaborative problem solving and completion of tasks.
- Performs research tasks as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Undergraduate degree in planning or related field.
- Knowledge of planning and/or zoning, including knowledge of land use codes and the ability to analyze code provisions.
- Proven experience in providing excellent customer service.
- Proven ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing.
- Moderate computer skills, including word processing and spreadsheet experience.
- Ability to perform site visits.
- Possession of a valid Washington State Driver's License or the ability to secure a reasonable transportation accommodation to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the position.
Preferred Qualifications: One (1) year of professional planning-related experience is desired.
Supplemental Information: Special Note: This is a full-time, benefited temporary position with funding anticipated through December 31, 2020. There will potentially be more than one position available. Working Conditions & Physical Activities
Job involves desk work which may be interrupted with phone and counter calls. May involve attendance at meetings in City Hall or off-site and before or after normal working hours. Reports and correspondence are typically prepared at the computer terminal. Frequent site visits to building sites or vacant properties can involve rugged and dirty conditions.
