UW’s Sarah Mills Awarded 2025 APA WA Student Scholarship

Sarah Mills Selected as the UW Recipient of the APA WA Chapter’s 2025 Student Scholarship

By Steve Butler, FAICP, Scholarship Committee Co-Chair, APA WA Chapter

Congratulations to Sarah Mills for being selected by the University of Washington’s (UW Seattle campus) Department of Urban Design & Planning as the recipient of an APA Washington Chapter’s 2025 Student Scholarship in the amount of $2,650!

Sarah is entering her second year in the Master of Urban Planning and Design program at the University of Washington, where she is specializing in Historic Preservation. She moved to Seattle in 2013 by way of Atlanta, where she attended Georgia Tech, to experience the magic of the PNW. Originally from rural South Georgia, Sarah fell in love with cities on trips in high school to New York and Paris, enamored with the “buzz of the big city.” With over 10 years of experience in both commercial real estate and technology, she is passionate about the intersection of the built environment, historic preservation, environmental sustainability, and urban vitality. Sarah is also excited to support her fellow classmates by passing along her professional knowledge.

Outside of school, Sarah is the Treasurer of the Pike Place Market Foundation and is on the Board of Directors for The Urbanist. In her free time, you can find her climbing a rock, paddling a lake, snowboarding down a mountain, or bending over her sewing machine.

Please join me in congratulating Sarah Mills and wishing her the best as she finishes up graduate school and then joins the planning profession!
