News Flash! The Student Scholarship Auction is BACK!!

By Steve Butler, FAICP

After a long hiatus, the WA-APA Student Scholarship Auction is coming back and will be held at the 2022 Chapter Conference in Vancouver. The Auction will benefit students at Washington's three Planning Advisory Board-accredited Planning schools. The Auction Committee members are already hard at work, and we need your help to find auction items. Ideas include:

  • Experiences (such as a stay at your second home, a trip on your boat, or an “insider’s tour” of your community)
  • Food and beverages – like a gift certificate from  your favorite restaurant and baskets of good snacks (such as smoked mussels, cheeses, and meats, good wine, microbrews, etc.)
  • Unique items, such as nice pieces of art or woodwork, good photographs (framed), sports memorabilia, and similar high-quality items.
  • And the list goes on…

Be creative in thinking about what you (or someone you know) can donate for such a good cause. In the words of Committee co-chair Michael Cardwell:- “Remember - the more money we raise, the more the scholarship recipients will be able to afford the education they need to become the planners we hope that they will become. Let's plan an affordable future for them!” Specific information on how you may contribute auction items will be available soon.

The Scholarship Auction Committee is also looking for a few more volunteers to help us organize this important event (especially those experienced in social media, auctioneering, and the tracking of fundraising accounts). For more information about volunteer opportunities or the Auction itself, please contact the Auction Committee co-chairs: Steve Butler ([email protected]) or Michael Cardwell ([email protected]).

In the meantime, mark your calendars now and plan to attend the Student Scholarship Auction on October 12th in Vancouver, WA.
