Earn CMs in Italy!

Announcing - The Second Annual Planning in Italy Course

May 10-15, 2026

The 2025 Planning in Italy seminar was such a success – we are running it again!  The course, offered in partnership with APA Washington, will be held over six days and five nights, include both seminars and field trips, and attendees can achieve 22 CM credits!

The course has been organized and hosted by Mark Hinshaw, formerly a Seattle-based planner, architect and writer. Mark was active in APA, holding offices including Chapter President, Urban Design Division Chair, and AICP Commissioner. Eight years ago, Mark retired and moved, with this wife Savina Bertollini, to a thousand-year-old hilltop town in central Italy.

Seminars will be led by English-speaking Italian planners who will discuss current policies, programs, and projects.  The group will take numerous field trips to visit other towns and waterfronts, a social farm, cultural centers, and an active archaeological dig.  A complete description of the seminars and field trips, as well as lodging options and a registration form are available on the Chapter website

Participants can reserve accommodations from a list of lodgings that suit their needs, preferences, and budget. Some of the past attendees coupled the course with other European travel. This is also a superb opportunity to discover a part of Italy that few tourists ever see -- experiencing day to day life in a real Italian town (and learning about their planning, as well!)

Reserve early as the number of places is limited.  A Registration Deposit is due February 10, 2026!
