August/September President's Message

By Paula Reeves, AICP CTP

A hint of fall is in the air in Washington and legislative activities appear to be picking up here in Olympia. APA Washington Chapter’s Legislative Committee Co-Chaired by Esther Larson and Yorik Stevens and supported by our lobbyist, Michael Shaw is preparing for a busy session with an expectation that the discussion of review and modernization of GMA will continue. If you are interested in engaging in the Legislative Committee this year, please contact Yorik Stevens at: [email protected]

Ballots have been sent out to all APA Washington members. You should have your ballot via email in the past week. I encourage you to vote for your Board of Directors and Section Leadership. If you have not received a ballot or have any questions about the process, please contact our APA Washington Office at:

Looking ahead to 2017, APA Washington and Oregon Chapters received a generous grant from National APA to host a Regional Forum on the Columbia River focused on four key topics including national and international water rights, infrastructure, energy, and regional security.  This forum will take place in Spring of 2017. Look for more information coming soon and check our on-line calendar of events for other training opportunities: http://www.washington-apa.org

If you have an interest in participating in a committee or other Chapter activities, we need and always appreciate your help! There are two vacant Board positions currently, the Planning Official Development Officer and Co-Chair of the Scholarship Committee. Contact me if you have an interest, and, as always, I invite you to drop me a line or call me with your ideas and suggestions at [email protected] or 360-701-1943.

All the Best – Paula Reeves
