Help Shape Washington's Approach to Drone Delivery Hub Planning

The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) Aviation Division is developing best-practice guidance to help local jurisdictions address the siting, zoning, and land-use compatibility of drone delivery hubs and similar unmanned aircraft system (UAS) ground infrastructure.

As operators begin proposing these facilities in Washington communities, planners and local officials are increasingly being asked to evaluate them without a clear regulatory or planning framework to draw on. APA Washington members sit at the center of this emerging issue, and your input is essential.

We are gathering information on existing local policies and ordinances, land-use and zoning approaches under consideration, and any ongoing studies, pilot programs, or interagency coordination efforts related to drone delivery hub integration. The results will inform guidance designed to make the planning process easier and more predictable for Washington jurisdictions, not to create new obligations, and findings will be shared back with APA Washington and its members.

Please take a few minutes to complete the survey by May 31. Your experience, whether your jurisdiction has formal policies in place or is just beginning to think through these questions, will help build a clearer picture of the planning landscape across the state.
