AICP Exam Updates

Planning to take the AICP Exam in 2026?

The registration window for the 2026 “Standard” AICP Exam closes by August 31st. You will need to take the exam by September 30.

There is also a “Special Pilot” Exam that is being offered with a different registration deadline and test taking window.  This exam is the first administration of an updated AICP exam and has different requirements – see the One Path to AICP page for those specifics.

AICP Exam Prep Resources

New exam prep resources have been added to the extensive collection available on the APA website. Exam candidates are encouraged to review all available materials, including the resources highlighted under Tip #4. The collection includes practice exams and other study tools developed by Texas A&M University.

The Washington Chapter is seeking instructors for its AICP Exam Prep session – if you are interested in helping out, please email me at [email protected]).

Did you purchase an Exam Transfer in 2026?

If you purchased an exam transfer during a previous exam cycle, you must redeem it during the 2026 exam window.  Be sure to register for the Standard AICP Exam by August 30 and take the exam by September 30.

If you have any questions about the AICP exam (Standard or Pilot) or your exam transfer status, email [email protected] with questions (include your APA ID).

Options for Earning CM Credits

Don’t forget that, in addition to earning Certification Maintenance (CM) credits through conferences, webinars, and similar training, you can also earn credits by participating in pro bono activities. AICP members may claim up to 8 CM credits every two years for qualifying pro bono planning services. Learn about eligibility requirements and how to record your service.
