Commerce Now Accepting Applications for Local Permit Review Grants — Due July 31, 2026The Washington State Department of Commerce is now accepting applications for its Permit Review Process Update Grants, a competitive funding opportunity aimed at helping local governments modernize and streamline their development review processes. Up to $475,000 is available statewide, with individual awards capped at $75,000. All Washington cities, towns, and counties are eligible to apply, and awards will be made on a first-come, first-served basis until funding is exhausted. Eligible activities include upgrading or replacing permitting software, staff training, auditing existing development regulations, and updating codes to reduce permit review times — with a particular emphasis on residential permitting. The program supports Commerce's broader effort to help jurisdictions meet housing production goals by removing procedural barriers to development. Questions can be directed to Ryan Shea at the Department of Commerce. Applications are due by 5 p.m. on Thursday, July 31, 2026. For full program details, eligibility requirements, and the application portal, visit Local Project Review webpage.
