Chapter’s 2025 Student Scholarship Application Process Opening Soon!By Steve Butler, FAICP, Student Scholarship Committee ChairThis year, the APA Washington Chapter (APA WA) will be providing scholarship funds to students from each of the three accredited planning educational programs in Washington state ($2,650 per program). The funding for these student scholarships is due to the generosity of numerous Washington planners who donated to APA WA’s Student Scholarship Fund and the support of the Chapter’s Board of Directors. To be qualified to receive the Chapter’s student scholarship funds, applicants must be a member of APA and a full-time student working toward: a Master of Urban & Regional Planning (MURP) at Eastern Washington University; a Master of Urban Planning (MUP) at the University of Washington; or a Bachelor of Arts in Urban Planning and Sustainable Development (UPSD) Program at Western Washington University. Applying for an APA WA scholarship is a competitive process, with funds to be awarded to eligible students who demonstrate the most overall: (1) academic excellence; (2) commitment/experience in planning and the APA; (3) potential future effectiveness in the field of planning; (4) financial need; and (5) interest in specific planning issues. The application process will be run by each planning program, with decisions about scholarship recipients to be selected by a faculty/staff committee from each educational institution. Application materials will be made available soon to interested students, who should contact their Department Chair and/or Financial Aid Office.
