Upcoming Webinar: Talking on Matters of Race

The 2021 amendments (HB 1220) to the Growth Management Act require that jurisdictions identify policies and regulations that result in racially disparate impacts, displacement and exclusion in housing. Jurisdictions must also work with their communities to identify and implement policies and regulations that begin to undo such impacts.

This will support planners as we do our work, have conversations with the community, and strive to promote equity and explicitly remove barriers in policies and regulations that perpetuate inequity. To help planners navigate what can be difficult conversations, Commerce will be hosting a free webinar on how jurisdictions might best engage in these discussions about race when planning equitably for housing.  BDS Planning, a Commerce-hired consultant, will present best public engagement practices when discussing racially disparate impacts, exclusion and displacement, as well as identify tools that can be used to reach out and engage community organizations which represent racial groups to support your planning work.

This webinar is scheduled for Wednesday, May 24, 2023 from 1:30pm - 2:30pm.  Please register in advance for this webinar at: https://wastatecommerce.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZIqc-ygpj0iHNwwaM7-ii1hTZOZJBCkZ5K3
