Transitions on the Board

We're in a time of transition, from the long hot lazy days of summer to the crisp and back-to-school/back-to-work feel of fall; from a swirl of pandemic-related disruption to a tentative new normal. This is also a time of transition on the APA-WA Chapter Board of Directors as election results are in, new terms are set to begin on November 1, and committee leaders rotate in and out.

I want to take a moment to recognize and thank two hard-working members of our board who are rotating off the board this month: Nikole Coleman and Laura Benjamin. Nikole has certainly earned a break after serving an impressive array of positions: co-chair of the 2014 Spokane Conference Committee, Communications Committee Co-Chair (2013-18), Secretary (2017-19), Continuing Education Committee Chair (2018-21), and Professional Development Committee Co-Chair (2020-22). Laura has also made a positive mark on the chapter through her diligent work as Chapter Secretary (2016-17) and Communications Committee Co-Chair (2020-2022). Many thanks to Nikole and Laura, and we'll see you around!

For every departure there must be an arrival, and appointments to fill vacancies on the board will be made soon. Please come see me at the conference or email me at [email protected] if you're interested in helping fellow planners and advancing your career through service to the chapter.

I want to also congratulate and thank the folks who stepped up to positions of chapter and section leadership:
  • Washington Chapter President Elect Chad Eiken, AICP
  • Puget Sound Section King County Rep. Teea Martin
  • Puget Sound Section Treasurer Samantha Ressler
  • Columbia Section President Erin Braich
  • Columbia Section President-Elect Byron Gumz
  • Columbia Section Secretary Noelle Madera
  • Columbia Section Treasurer Elizabeth Smith
  • Northwest Section President Elect Brad Johnson
  • Northwest Section Treasurer Rachel Belt
  • Inland Empire Section Secretary Ariel Medeiros
  • Inland Empire Section President Shauna Harshman
Congratulations to you all, and thank you.
