President's Message

Chapter President | Yorik Stevens-Wajda, AICP
September 2022

The conference is approaching and I'm looking forward to seeing old friends, learning about the latest tools, techniques, and trends in planning, and commiserating with my fellow planners about a tough couple of years. If you haven't yet signed up there's still time.

Last chance for nominations for 2023 awards (people). At the conference this year during the awards lunch on Wednesday, October 12. I will present several awards to distinguished members of the planning community, including:
  • The Barbara Grace Award to a mid-level planner who has distinguished themselves with a dedication to public service and professional accomplishment,
  • The Robert "Bob" Burke Award for distinguished service to the APA Washington Chapter,
  • The Myer Wolfe Award, recognizing professional achievement and advancement of the planning profession, and
  • The Legislator of the Year Award, recognizes attention to, and a positive impact on, the state's planning framework.
There's still time to make this a hard decision! Please send any nominations to [email protected].

The chapter will hold its annual meeting (see section 2.2 of the bylaws) at the same lunch on Wednesday. The meeting will feature a brief update from chapter leadership on the state of the chapter and its finances, an update on elections and AICP inductions, the latest strategic initiatives from the national, and a chance for members to ask questions.
