Job Description: This position is open until filled and may be closed at any time following the first review of applications on June 20, 2019, at 4:30 pm. This is a part-time (20 hours per week) position expected to last approximately 18 months. This position does not include any benefits except those legally required such as WA State Paid Sick Leave, Worker's Compensation, etc.

This is an integrated job posting and applications are open for candidates who meet the qualifications for either a Planner or an Associate Planner. Only one position is available.

Job Duties: 

About the Position

  • This position will work closely with and support the Edmonds Housing Commission. Duties will include public outreach through online and in-person formats. Preference for expertise in community engagement and graphic communication. Familiarity with housing issues is a plus.

  • The Development Services Department includes staff from building, engineering, and planning disciplines. The Department is committed to ensuring community livability through high quality and safe development and ongoing compliance with city standards.

  • The City of Edmonds is a beautiful community on the Puget Sound waterfront with a population of 41,960 and is the gateway to the Olympic Peninsula via the state ferry system. Edmonds provides a full range of services, including contracted fire services, police services a municipal court, a community pool, a regional performing arts facility, public works, and utilities, a regional wastewater treatment facility, along with parks and recreation community events and services. Six department directors report directly to the Mayor and oversee approximately 220 full-time-equivalent employees.

Experience/Qualifications/Knowledge/Skills: 

Education - Both Classifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Urban, Regional, or Municipal Planning, Geography, or related field

Experience - Planner

  • Two Years of experience performing planning duties including code and permit reviews, analysis, and evaluation, and preparation of basic reports; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Experience - Associate Planner

  • Three years of experience performing planning duties including policy and code review, analysis, and evaluation, and preparation of detailed reports; prefer responsibility for leading projects or staff in a municipal planning environment; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Required Licenses or Certifications:

  • Must be able to successfully complete and pass a background check.
  • Valid Driver's License required at time of hire. WA State Driver's License required within 30 days of hire-date.
  • Must be able to provide a driver's abstract for all states a license was held in the preceding 5 years.
