Salary: $64,130 to $78,136 Annually + 4% into Deferred Compensation plan

Job Description: The Assistant Planner performs research and support duties for other planners and maintains records, prepares data and responds to customer inquiries regarding assigned projects.

Job Duties:

Essential Functions:

  • Research, analyze and prepare reports on development projects including single-family subdivisions, multi-family residential, commercial, and mixed-use developments.
  • Prepare complex and technical staff reports for environmental impact review, design review, master site plan review, shoreline management act, critical areas, zoning ordinance revision, and related issues.
  • Manage and coordinate development projects from pre-application through final occupancy, including land use entitlement, construction permit review, building permit review and landscape and design inspections.
  • Assist Senior Planners and serve as a team member on major planning projects.
  • Provide and interpret information orally and in writing to land developers and the public concerning Planning Department policies and regulations, zoning, subdivision, site plan review and other relevant land use related regulations.
  • Coordinate and assure the production of major planning documents and maps and administer related contracts.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

Experience/Qualifications/Knowledge/Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in Planning, Urban Studies, Geography, Environmental Science, Public Policy or related field.
  • One year experience in municipal planning including preparation of land use permits, environmental analysis, building and construction permit processing, and comprehensive plan and zoning implementation.
  • Valid driver's license.
