The Comprehensive Plan in the 21st Century: Sustainable, Resilient, and Equitable

Session 8A | Friday | 11:00 AM – 12:15 PM (PT)

About the Session

Comprehensive Planning has evolved in the 21st century to become more integrated and holistic; whereas 20th century planning was often incremental and piecemeal. A new planning paradigm is presented that uses a comprehensive systems approach, with a foundation in sustainability, resiliency, and equity. This paradigm recognizes the community as a "system of systems," and presents a systems-based model for comprehensive planning. This model builds on the recent work of the American Planning Association's Sustaining Places initiative for 21st century comprehensive planning.
