Washington Chapter Scholarships Awarded

By: Wells Williams, AICP, and Kirk Rappe, AICP, Chapter Scholarship Co-Chairs.

2020 Washington APA scholarships awarded to Eastern Washington University and University of Washington students.

Each year, the Washington Chapter of the American Planning Association provides scholarships to students in the Western Washington University, Eastern Washington University, and University of Washington planning programs.  The faculty at each university select the recipients.  The funds are one of the ways the chapter maintains strong relationships with the schools and their students. The 2020-21 scholarships are for $2,500 each.

Veronica Bean was selected to receive our scholarship by the UW Department of Urban Design and Planning (UDP).  She has an exceptional background and has lived and travelled across several continents.  Public transportation has been a key part of her experience when she lived in South Korea and ventured to Australia, India, and Europe.

Veronica’s experience with public transit has fueled her professional interests.  After completing her Planning Master's, she intends to pursue a Master's in Civil Engineering in transportation.  She serves as the UDP student representative to the WA APA Puget Sound Section and values the connections she’s made with APA members.

Kelly Dolan

Kelley Dolan is in her second year of Eastern’s grad program.  Kelley works on placemaking and community engagement through her graduate assistantship with WSDOT and the North Spokane Corridor.

She holds a Bachelor's from Loyola University in Maryland.  Kelley has served as a Jesuit Volunteer at a domestic violence shelter in Anchorage and assisted low-income students in Baltimore.

Ms. Dolan has a diverse set of interests. Her current passions include equitable and sustainable communities — the points where they intersect with planning particularly interests her.

The chapter newsletter will profile the Western recipients when available.
