Plan4Health Grant Win

We are thrilled to announce that the Active Transportation Community of Interest (AT COI), with the support of APA WA and the Washington State Public Health Association, has been awarded a Plan4Health $160,000 federal grant to continue the AT COI’s work to ensure that everyone in the Puyallup Watershed has access to safe, healthy, and affordable active transportation options. Over the next 10 months, these funds will be used to:

  • Build community capacity for involvement in planning & policy making,
  • Educate local policymakers, community leaders, and the public on the intersections between health, equity, and active transportation,
  • And, work with local jurisdictions to develop and implement Action Plans to make our communities better places to walk, bike, and skateboard.

The AT COI is engaged in innovative work that can be applied to active transportation efforts across the state. The group’s work can serve as a model and resource for community driven efforts to improve access to active transportation options.

The AT COI is one of just 17 Plan4Health grant recipients nationwide, and the only organization located in Washington State.

The Active Transportation Community of Interest – Puyallup Watershed in Pierce County, Washington

The Active Transportation Community of Interest is a cross-sector community coalition working to ensure that everyone in the Puyallup Watershed has access to safe, healthy, and affordable active transportation options.

The AT COI is one of six coalitions making up the Puyallup Watershed Initiative, a collective impact project funded by The Russell Family Foundation, which has brought the community together to improve the health of the people and the environment in the Puyallup River Watershed.

Plan4Health

Plan4Health is a multi-year effort that strengthens the connection between planning and public health. Seventy-five percent of the program’s funding supports local and state coalitions working to advance public health through better planning and partnerships, specifically through leveraging skills and evidence-based strategies. The program is implemented in partnership with the American Public Health Association (APHA) and represents a major new collaboration between planners and public health professionals. Funding for Plan4Health was provided through an award from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
