Chapter members are invited to submit nominations for the 2021 Eric R. Shields Leadership Award. This award is given annually at the Chapter conference to a member who has made an outstanding contribution to their community, organization, or the profession by virtue of their leadership. The Award is named for long-time Chapter member Eric R. Shields, AICP, who served as the planning director for the City of Kirkland from 1992 until his untimely passing in 2018. Eric’s leadership built the Kirkland planning department into a high-performing organization that helped Kirkland become an outstanding model of a well-planned community.

This award is intended for a senior member of an agency, firm, or other organization who has achieved results by virtue of strong leadership qualities such as vision, innovation, communication, collaboration, mentorship, and ethical conduct.
