PSRC is seeking an Associate Planner to perform a variety of tasks and activities that support transportation planning in the central Puget Sound region. The position will provide general assistance and support to the Transportation Planning Division, with a particular focus on analytical support as well as committee support for long range transportation planning functions. The position will be responsible for a range of qualitative and quantitative work.

This work may include, but is not limited to the following tasks:

  • Supporting development of the Regional Transportation Plan and Regional Transportation Improvement Program;
  • Supporting development of the long-range financial strategy for the Regional Transportation Plan;
  • Assisting in PSRC’s project selection and monitoring processes;
  • Communicating a range of transportation-related topics and issues, both in writing and presentations;
  • Assisting in maintenance and organization of one or more PSRC committees;
  • Assisting with the implementation of federal and state transportation requirements and regional policy.
  • The Associate Planner will research, analyze, summarize and validate data and prepare final reports for presentation and publication.

Job Duties:

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Knowledge of federal and state transportation planning requirements.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local transportation funding sources and programs.
  • Ability to perform data analysis and research, synthesize and summarize analytic processes and findings, and make recommendations.
  • Excellent attention to detail, organization, and problem-solving skills. Able to coordinate between multiple and diverse work tasks with limited supervision.
  • Experience developing reports and graphics for presentations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, and with the general public and transportation professionals.

Experience/Qualifications/Knowledge/Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in transportation planning, engineering, geography, public administration, or related field.
  • Two years increasingly responsible experience in transportation planning, grants management, or related field.
  • Or, any combination of education and experience that would provide the applicant with the desired skills, knowledge, and abilities required to perform the job.
