The New APA Washington President-Elect Is...By Paula Reeves, AICP CTP As current president, I'd like to announce that Rick Sepler, AICP, is APA Washington's new President-Elect. Rick will serve a year as president-elect (November 2016 to October 2017), two years as president (November 2017 to October 2018) and one year as past-president (November 2018 to October 2019). Rick is currently the Planning and Community Development Director for the City of Bellingham, Washington. As Bellingham's Director, he supervises a staff of 45. Prior to joining Bellingham in November, 2015, he was the Community Services Director for the City of Port Townsend, Washington, a position he held for 8 years. Before joining the City of Port Townsend, Rick was the president of Madrona Planning & Development Services Inc., a planning and design firm with offices in Seattle and Port Townsend, Washington. As Madrona’s President, he authored plans and implemented regulations for a number of cities and counties in Washington State. Concurrent with his position as Planning Director for Bellingham, Rick is also an Affiliate Faculty member of the Department of Urban Design and Planning at the University of Washington, where he has taught courses on site planning, subdivision design, and small town planning. Rick has also served as the Hearings Examiner for the cities of Shelton, Ferndale, Hoquiam, Mount Vernon, and McCleary, and was the Alternate Examiner for Mason County. Congratulations, Rick!
