Inland Empire Section Proposed Bylaws Amendment

Proposed Bylaws Amendment

March 31st, 2017
1.) Purpose
The Inland Empire Section of Washington’s American Planning Association is working on updates to its Bylaws in order to better reflect the makeup and the vision of the section’s membership. The Bylaws contain information pertaining to officers, duties, term duration, meetings, etc. Those items will not change. However, in review of the current “Purpose” statement, also known as Article II, the board identified opportunities to improve, bolster and reorganize the current statement. Amending the “Purpose” to include “Mission and Vision” will provide additional basis for section activities and support its future aspirations.

2.) Idaho
Additionally, the bylaws currently include Idaho. Since APA-Idaho’s regions have been fully established, amendments to the bylaws will resolve the current overlap. Idaho counties Boundary, Bonner, Kootenai, Benewah, Latah, Nez Perce, Shoshone, and Clearwater are now being served by APA-Idaho’s regions one and two. The current proposal will remove Idaho references from the bylaws.

3.) Section Input and Vote:
According to Article XIII “Bylaw Amendments”, amendments may be proposed by the Executive Board or by a petition signed by five percent (5%) of the Section membership. The membership may amend these bylaws by a majority vote at a general meeting (Priest Lake Conference). Please provide comments to the proposed changes by April 30, 2017. Copies of the proposed changes will be made available thirty days prior to the meeting. The amendment timeline is as follows:

April 1 -30, 2017: Comment Period. Comments can be emailed to Mary May, AICP [email protected], or Ryan Hughes, AICP [email protected].
May 1, 2017: Draft Amendment Issued to Membership
June 1, 2017: Membership Meeting Vote
