Employer: City of Mercer Island Job Description: The Community Planning & Development (CPD) Director is an executive level position and is responsible for long-range planning; land use planning and construction permitting processes; zoning; private sector related city engineering functions; building inspection and plans review; customer service; and code compliance; and issuance of administrative code interpretations. Job Duties: The CPD Director reports to the City Manager and is an active member of the City’s Leadership Team. The Director supports and fosters the relationship between the City of Mercer Island and the community by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with clients, visitors, and City staff; promotes City goals and priorities in compliance with all policies and procedures. This position directs CPD Department staff and activities through effective planning, staff management, resource allocation, and sound fiscal practices; provides leadership to assure that department services are provided in alignment with the City's strategic goals, by conscientiously applying and administering development regulations, guaranteeing safe infrastructure and building construction, and providing accurate technical information and community-enhancing projects and programs. Supplemental Information: The 2020 salary range for the Community Planning & Development Director position is $150,000 to $170,000, dependent upon experience. An attractive package of benefits is available to the successful candidate, including a $6,500 deferred compensation employer-contribution (pro-rated for partial year of service), 200 hours of vacation per year, as well as excellent insurance benefits.
