Job Description:

The City of North Bend is seeking experienced applicants for its Community Development Director position in our highly livable small town that is the premier outdoor recreation destination in the Puget Sound region. This position is responsible for directing the City's community development services and operations including current planning, long-range planning, building, inspection, economic development, and permitting. The successful applicant will be a team-oriented leader who possesses excellent customer service skills, a high degree of independent judgment and initiative, and innovative problem-solving abilities. Under the direction of the City Administrator, this position works closely with the Mayor, City Council, Directors, community, and State and Federal agencies to carry out the community's vision for long-term development.

Job Duties:

The Community Development Director manages all department staff and oversees development, implementation and maintenance of the City's long-range comprehensive plan and development regulations, acts as the SEPA responsible official, and works as a knowledgeable and dynamic member of the City's management team. The Director implements Council policy through research, analysis, and drafting of code amendments, plans and policies, and serves as the City's technical advisor and administrator on matters relating to City planning, permitting, land use and development.

Experience/Qualifications/Knowledge/Skills:

Minimum qualifications include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in urban planning, land-use planning, transportation planning, economic development, public administration or a closely related field;
  • and Ten or more years of progressively responsible management experience in duties related to the position;
  • or An equivalent combination of experience, education and training that would provide the desired level of skills, knowledge and ability required to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the position.
  • Valid Washington State Driver's License or ability to obtain upon employment.

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Master’s degree
  • Experience in municipal planning and/or community development
  • Certification by the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP)

Supplemental Information:

The City offers a competitive compensation plan and generous benefits package which includes salary range up to $162,000 annually, depending on experience, excellent medical, dental and vision benefits, 11 paid holidays, vacation and sick leave, executive leave; Washington State Public Employees Retirement (PERS) Plan and paid life insurance.
