Employer: City of Benicia, CA Job Description: Community Development Director The City of Benicia, is a beautiful waterfront community of 28,000 on the San Francisco Bay, and is known for its small-town charm and quality of life and is home to numerous award-winning restaurants, schools, and parks. Benicia has a high level of community pride and interest in preserving the quality of life. Residents enjoy low crime, good schools, affordable housing, as well as a wide range of cultural and recreational opportunities. Appointed by the City Manager, the Community Development Director oversees Planning (both current and advanced), Building Services and a Development Services counter. The chosen candidate will enjoy frequent opportunities to influence development projects and policy creation that will shape Benicia’s commercial, residential and economic advancement. Politically astute, this individual will be recognized as a problem-solver who anticipates issues, is pro-active and an excellent communicator. Requirements for the position include a Bachelor’s degree in Urban Planning, Public Administration, Business Administration or a closely related field and 5 years of increasingly responsible governmental experience. It is highly desirable that the selected candidate exhibit knowledge and experience of the following: principles of leadership; effective supervision; and the development, evaluation, and supervision of staff, either directly or through subordinate levels of supervision.
