Call for Nominations to AICP College of Fellows

The deadline for the Washington Chapter to make nominations is October 11, 2017.

Election to the College of Fellows is one of the highest honors that the American Institute of Certified Planners bestows upon a member. This honor recognizes the achievements of the professional who has made significant contributions to society and the field of planning.

Planners who meet the minimum criteria may be nominated for membership in the College of Fellows: 1) have been AICP members for at least 15 years, 2) have maintained membership in good standing, and 3) have made outstanding contributions to the profession over an extended period of time. Nominees are evaluated for their achievements and excellence in one of four distinct categories: (1) Professional practice, (2) Teaching and Mentoring, (3) Research, and (4) Community Service and Leadership. More information is available on National's website

This process is to determine nominations made by the Washington Chapter. There are two other courses of nomination: by a chair of one of the APA divisions, or by a group of at least ten AICP members.

The Chapter’s deadline for 2018 nominations is October 11, 2017 in order to meet the College of Fellows’ deadline of October 13, 2017.

A list of the APA Washington Chapter members of AICP who are eligible to be nominated for induction into the College of Fellows is available at this link. Contact the Chapter’s 2018 Nomination Committee chair Mark Kulaas, FAICP, at (509) 888-6577 or [email protected] for additional information. The form for indicating your interest in Chapter nomination is available here. Return it to Mark by email not later than July 14.

The nomination package is put together by the nominee and explains in detail why the nominee’s professional work is significant and has made a unique contribution to the field of planning over the nominee’s career. The nominee is also responsible for obtaining letters of recommendation which address the nominee’s specific contributions for inclusion in the nomination package.

It cannot be stated too much that it takes a lot of work by nominees to compile their nomination, and it is not without stressful moments as the production deadlines approach.

The Chapter Committee consists of current members of the College of Fellows. Committee members will mentor those who are selected for nomination by the Chapter. The successful 2018 nominees will be inducted into the College of Fellows at the 2018 National APA Conference in New Orleans on Sunday, April 22, 2018 (tentative).
